2010 : « Algiers, dialogues in bubbles »

The FIBDA third meeting : A refreshing edition combining knowledge, know how and technology.
Qualified as “ laid out literature” or “ pictorial narration”, bubbles art is a happy mix of beauty, history, language, psychology, science, technology; in other words it is a complex art for a huge and fanciful view of the world.
No one can deny its useful contribution to culture and early learning of reading. More than that, bubbles art is an efficient communication tool: it can express anything for all types of readers. Various aspects are dealt with: religions, caricatures, narrations and traditional stories, politics. It is the representation of the society they grow in and, as such, do participate in shaping its readers thinking.

Its inter change with plastic arts, its capacity to adapt oral or written works, open up so many other artistic expression forms and enhance skills transfer. Given that, bubbles art needs to be soundly considered , just like in some countries where it has considerably developed, and become an important cultural support, a powerful segment of the edition sector, the right tool for training and employment and a solid economic advantage.
That is a stake Algeria is aware of. Every year a festival is held, the FIBDA, as a space of exchange between cartoonists who, if left alone in their respective countries, will never be heard of , will be deprived of any experience sharing and therefore will have no possibility to create a market aimed at generating a specific culture in the minds of its readers. Algeria is launching the third edition of its FIBDA, in the presence of well known cartoonists.

A great meeting is then to be expected. This year, “ the bubble bay” with its “fresh air bubbles” will give the festival a local feeling and a colourful atmosphere. As a literature and an art piece of work, it is quite natural for this huge programme to be organized by the Ministry of Culture under the patronage of Mrs Khalida Toumi, Minister of Culture. This is where it has to be dealt with as a valuable and diversified production, for the delight of thousands and ever growing number of readers.

The previous experiences have shown that in this context of major numerical development, cartoons edition is still very dynamic, grows in close collaboration with other media and keeps on attracting its traditional readers. This is why we should try and increase the number of players seeking to reach new outlets based on technological support applications (cinemas, television, video games).

The 3rd FIBDA will offer a rich programme for a large and diversified audience: exchanges between cartoons professionals and specialists, screen projections, drawings exhibitions showing graphic performances, youth work shops, a book shop exclusively dedicated to bubbles cartoons, training in every cartoons support, awards celebrations which, this year, will be for : the best album on national heritage, the best scientific cartoon, the best novel or narration adaptation, and a prize for a school cartoon which will be competed for.

The FIBDA is moving ahead. It is getting to its third edition and intends to pursue its development. The target of the Algerian cartoons edition is to re-acquire its place in a secure market and bring new talents to be revealed.
